Sapphic Bison is a recently founded activist-led organisation working to improve the trans healthcare system in the UK. We are a non-profit service working to provide affordable blood testing services for the UK trans community and address barriers to trans-affirming care. Our primary aim is to provide harm reduction tools tailored for the trans community through more convenient and cheaper services. To do this, we partnered with labs and negotiated excellent prices for testing kits. We have also successfully crowdfunded our initial operations and overhead costs through community mutual aid efforts. We also aim to kickstart research projects on improving trans healthcare (such as researching the use of urine to monitor hormones in transfeminine individuals, researching the feasibility of new tools to assist healthcare providers with gender-affirming care decision-making through AI technologies, and mapping/tackling the gaps in trans health research). We have recently registered our organisation and aim to launch our pilot project this month.

As a trans-led non-profit organisation, all the profit we make will be re-invested into the trans community and our organisation, and we hope to offer low-cost services for those who need it in the community in the future. We are also hoping to access external funding to launch our research activities and improve our operations. Our founder team is composed of people from various personal and professional backgrounds, such as reproductive health, anthropology and business. We hope to utilise this diversity to have a holistic approach and improve service accessibility.
